  • Bicep Announces New Project “CHROMA”, Premieres New Song “CHROMA 001 HELIUM” on BBC Radio 1

  • London-based DJ duo Bicep, consisting of Andrew Ferguson and Matthew McBriar, has announced a new project “CHROMA”.

The new project combines a record label, a series of curated events and a Bicep AV/DJ show, as well as a unique visual identity created in collaboration with David Rudnick and his Terrain studio.
The duo said of the project in a statement, “We've increasingly wanted to show a more rounded picture of what we do in the studio. “We do a lot of more heavy techno focused music, ambient and various other styles that don't really fit into the 'BICEP' sound, and which often never sees the light of day.”
They continued, “We want to use CHROMA to push our sounds and challenge people more than we probably have in the past. The label is designed to evolve and draw on inspiration constantly, both musically and aesthetically. We're wanting to essentially create a world that's an up-to-date representation of us both personally in terms of our evolving tastes.”
  • To celebrate the launch of the project, the duo premiered a new song “CHROMA 001 HELIUM” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.
The track was written by Andrew Ferguson, Matthew McBriar, Israel Lawal, and Tafadzwa Cole Madondo. Produced by Bicep.
Bicep said of the song, “HELIUM was written specifically for our London Ally Pally shows at the end of 2022. The show felt a little too sweet in certain sections and we wanted to add some more grit into the show…. [It's] a bit darker and more club-focused than most of our music we have released over the past few years. Although it's actually a pretty fair representation of what we're listening to and playing in our DJ sets.”

  • The duo shared on social media, “Excited to finally announce CHROMA, our new label which today comes with the 1st release - HELIUM. The idea behind the label is twofold: as both a home for our own more underground club focused productions, and also a platform to share our wider music styles via different aliases and collaborations.”
They continued, “HELIUM was written specifically for our London Ally Pally shows at the end of 2022. The show felt a little too sweet in certain sections and we wanted to add some more grit!”
They added, “We're also doing some chroma curated events including Brighton beach and Finsbury Park London as well as bringing our new CHROMA AVDJ show to a Loada festivals this year. Hope to see ya at one of them.”
