  • Nothing But Thieves Premieres New Song “Welcome to the DCC” on BBC Radio 1

  • British rock band Nothing But Thieves, consisting of Conor Mason (vocals/guitars), Joe Langridge-Brown (guitar), Dominic Craik (guitar/keyboard), Philip Blake (bass) and James Price (drums), premiered a new song “Welcome to the DCC” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.

The song is their first music in three years since the 2020 album “Moral Panic”.
Also, the track is the first single off of their upcoming fourth studio album “Dead Club City”, which is set to be released on June 30, 2023.
It was written by Julian Emery, Jim Irvin, Joseph Langridge-Brown, Conor Mason, and Dominic Craik. Produced by Jonathan Gilmore.
The accompanying music video was directed by Jay Green.
The band told Clara Amfo about the song, “It's a good kind of punch to the stomach. It doesn't leave you to winded afterwards. For us, this song is a little bit more uncomfortable we wrote it. The first bit like out of our comfort zone, but I think the more we lived with it, the more we fell in love with it.”
  • They continued, “There is some process was unusual way, because we thought listen, this is like almost pastiche, we can push it. We just had a lot of fun with it. We didn't really overthink it every other care about it at the start. And then six months later, we looked the three of us like this is a really, really great song. And we thought this could be the lead for our campaign.”
The band explained the sound of the song, “We had so much time after the pandemic writing and when you have that time, you have a lot of time to experiment and we kind of landed on this slightly more electronic synth, heavy thing quite riff and rhythmically orientated music and it was quite exciting for us, and I think if you like it as a band, hopefully everyone else likes it as well. But you know, we were just really invested in it at the time.”

  • They said, “It was about halfway through we were kind of messing with the idea of concepts like you start out this album for so what is a rock band do they go concept. So it's very cliche isn't it? And then about halfway through be broke this sort of advertisement to this world that we've created a club city. And it just you have to really like lead with this song is the advertisement, it's the sort of like the welcome to the place.”
They added about the new album, “I think when you're writing it's where these for us we don't we haven't got a genre picks or like an idea at all of what we want to do. We just do it, see what comes out. And then few months later, you're like, 'Oh, I really liked the melodic structure of that.' Although since we were used or where we're going lyrically and it's like, that's it it's such tape starts taking shape as you're writing sort of like, and then we use the sort of similar themes throughout the album throughout the writing we did after.”
