Matthew and The Mainstream Announces New Album “Rom Core”, Shares New Song “Can't Believe (You're Living With Him)” featuring Reggie Watts
Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Matthew Lurie's solo project Matthew and The Mainstream announced his sophomore album “Rom Core” would be released on January 13, 2022.
It is his first album in 11 years since the 2012 debut album “Girl Next to the Girl Next Door”.
Matthew Lurie recorded the album over the course of three years, from Spring 2018 to Fall 2021, at Thundershirt Studios in Echo Park, Los Angeles.
Recorded just before and during the pandemic, the album expands the Mainstream palette to include string quartet, horn sections, and buzz saw. Produced by Thundershirt.
The album of 10 songs was culled from a selection of 25 demos Matthew Lurie brought in, workshopped with Young and Seiver, and then recorded piecemeal, in between touring gigs and a pandemic.
The album title comes from Matthew Lurie's affection for rom coms, art that's centered on love and lovelessness, and the realization that few artists today speak plainly about matters of the heart.
From the album, he unveiled the first single called “Can't Believe (You're Living With Him)” on October 20, 2022.
He teamed up with American singer-songwriter Reggie Watts on the track.
