Alexander 23 Releases New Song “Hate Me If It Helps”
- American singer-songwriter Alexander 23 released a new song “Hate Me If It Helps” along with a music video on February 10, 2022.
It is his first music in nearly a year since the 2021 EP “Oh No, Not Again!”.
Alexander 23 shared on social media, “Half of me is legitimately terrified that people will actually hear this song, but the other half knows thats exactly how it should feel couldnt be more proud and excited. this is the first song ive released in 356 days.”
This time, he co-wrote the song with American singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo, who is best known for smash hit “drivers license”, and co-producer Dan Nigro. Back in 2021, Alexander 23 and Dan Nigro produced Olivia Rodrigo's “Good 4 U”.
“I'd gotten to a point where I realized that I loved this person enough that I didn't care what it took for them to feel better after the breakup,” Alexander 23 said of the song in a statement. “So if blaming me gets them to where they need to be, I'm totally okay with that.”
The accompanying music video was directed by Charles Mehling.
Alexander 23 told Rolling Stone about the video, “I didn't want to do anything narrative or complicated, just something that would let the listener conflate their own story in with the record.”
