  • Koffee Premieres New Song “West Indies” on BBC Radio 1

  • Jamaican reggae singer-songwriter Mikayla Simpson, aka Koffee is back with a new song “West Indies” on October 7, 2021.
The song received its first play during BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.
It was written by Koffee and produced by Iotosh.
Koffee told Clara Amfo about the song, “Actually, chuck came very naturally to me. I had a session with Jamaican producer Iotosh, just a young producer who having kind of find out off since I was a teenager in high school, and I finally got the chance to link up when he played me a few beats or once he played that chuck I just kind of got into the groove right away pretty naturally. Those two lines I knew in my head for like a few weeks prayer, this muscle reason, and I just got an opportunity to express it on that chuck, so I was pretty proud of myself.”
  • The song will appear on her upcoming debut album. Clara Amfo asked Coffey how she felt the creativity of her debut album during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I think a little bit of both,” Koffee said. “I think I've been able to find a good balance of both during the pandemic, which is something that I feel like is a blessing so whenever somebody asked me like how has it been for me, I'd say I carry constantly. So I've been actually working on my album, over the period of the pandemic I know we're pretty much complete, and if I should say how many chaps but obviously wasting this is one of them, and I'm really happy and excited to put it forward.”
Back in February, she told Rolling Stone about the album. “I want to speak of a solution and of a way that we can come together and get along, even when things are going wrong,” she said. “Positivity is definitely a theme. It will be a very interesting twist for people who knew my music before, and also for people who will discover me. I think it will be really awesome.”
