  • Lil Nas X Releases Debut Album “MONTERO”: Streaming

  • American rapper Lil Nas X released his long-awaited debut album “MONTERO” on September 17, 2021.
On the same day of releasing the album, he dropped a new video for “Baby Montero Is Here!”, in which he gave birth to the album at the hospital.
The video is inspired by Megan Thee Stallion's “Dolla Sign Slime”. Lil Nas X said, “I was like, 'Oh my God, this is amazing,' so I immediately called my stylist. She was like, 'Wow, this all comes together. Your album. Your baby.' I was like, 'Yeah, this is my baby, huh?' As a joke, she was like, 'Yeah, you should do a pregnancy shoot.' I was like, 'You know what? That's actually brilliant. So now we have this entire thing coming out, and it's going to be amazing.”
The album comprises 15-track, featuring guest appearances from Doja Cat, Elton John, Megan Thee Stallion, Miley Cyrus and Jack Harlow.
Lil Nas X said of the album, “This album exuberates confidence, creativity, just me completely stepping out of my comfort zone and saying whatever I want and giving my actual stories, giving my fans something to take from me. You know, 7 was cool, I love 7, it's great, but it wasn't personal enough and I feel like that's exactly what this album's gonna bring.”
He continued, “I feel like with this album, I know what I wanted. I know what I want. I know where I want to be in life. And I know that's going to take me being more open and bringing it out of myself no matter how much it hurts or feels uncomfortable to say things that I need to say.”

Lil Nas X explained some tracks of the album.

“MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)”
“i wrote a song with our name in it. it's about a guy i met last summer. i know we promised to never come out publicly, i know we promised never to be “that” type of gay person, i know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist. you see this is very scary for me, people will be angry, they will say i'm pushing an agenda. but the truth is, i am. the agenda to make people stay the fuck out of other people's lives and stop dictating who they should be. sending you love from the future.”

“The very first day of “INDUSTRY BABY”: me and Daytrip, Roy Lenzo, like we were all in the studio, and we were thinking, like what the fuck are we making right now. And I was like upset 'cause we tried like seven different songs and nothing was like hating for me. And I heard like… [hums the intro melody]. I was like, “Hold on, what that is? Run that back.” When I first heard it, I was like, 'Wow! This sounds like some, like king, intro kind of Jay-Z, royalty kind of beat. Whatever happens with this, I definitely have to pop my shit.” I was still like in the mindset of like, “Okay, these rappers, like they not really fuck with me like that, fuck these niggas.' But then, you know, I started talking to Jack like online or whatnot. He was like a real cool guy. And from there I was like, 'Oh, perfect! Boom.' I liked what he was talking about, it resonated with me. Y'all thought I was just gonna be here for a second. Look where I'm at — I'm here to stay. That's how I feel, you know what I mean. When I first came out, I think, a lot of people had this feeling of, “Man, we'll see. Maybe it's a fluke.” So for me this felt like a chance. “Look, I'm here, too.” So I really resonated with the content. I love Nas and everything he's doing but what he was saying on this song, I was like, “I feel that. I feel that, I wanna give my story.”

“in the 'SUN GOES DOWN' video i go back in time to visit a younger version self who's struggling inside, hating himself, & doesn't want to live anymore. i try my best to uplift him. this one is really special to me.”
