  • World Surf League: Swatch Pro Quarterfinals, Silvana Lima Beats Stephanie Gilmore
  • WSL Women's Championship, Swatch Pro Round 4 and Quarterfinals ran at Lower Trestles in San Clemente in four-to-five foot waves on September 14.
    In Heat 1 of Round 4, 6-time World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) earned 9.17 and 9.73 points, and defeated reigning World Champion Tyler Wright (AUS).
    But in Quarterfinals, Stephanie Gilmore was beaten by Silvana Lima (BRA) again. Silvana Lima kept her fire burning. For Lima, it was a proud moment of victory that, as her best CT result this year.
    Lakey Peterson (USA) took down 3-time World Champ Carissa Moore (HAW) in Heat 2 of Quarterfinals. She was defeated by Carissa in Round 3. But in Quarterfinals, she showcased speedy riding and received 9.70, 9.80 points with a total of 19.57 points.
    In Heat 3, Courtney Conlogue (USA) defeated Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) with 14.06 points. This result marks Conlogue moved up to the second of the rankings.
    "The door cracks open and you just want to walk through it," Courtney Conlogue said.

    Silvana Lima said;
    “I’ve had a lot of heats with Steph [Gilmore] and she’s so inspiring. Just thanking the Lord for this moment and coming here. There’s so many fun waves out there. I look to do my best and Lowers. This wave suits me so good. It’s like a skatepark and I feel so much confidence. That was my moment and I’m just so thankful. I’ll just keep going and doing my best, hopefully just do the same thing and my goal is the Final. There’s still one more heat, so I’ll give it my all.”

    Lakey Peterson said;
    “Carissa [Moore] is so progressive with airs and her rail game is incredible, so I knew I just had to bring my best. I was kind of thinking back to Snapper a little bit and just what I was doing there. My rail game felt really good on that wave and it was getting rewarded, so I was just trying to bring it back to that. This morning I felt a bit nervous coming off a few bad results and I was just wanting to get through that round. I think after getting through that one there was no pressure and I’m just really enjoying myself.”
