MotoGP Valencia: Jorge Lorenzo celebrates victory on his Yamaha farewell
The Round 18 on MotoGP 2016, Valencia MotoGP Race witnessed Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) finished his time with Yamaha with a commanding victory in the 2016 season finale.
Pole Sitter Jorge Lorenzo kept the top from start to finish and claimed his fourth victory in this season, as well as he confirmed to sit the third on the championship standing.
The reigning Champion Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) made a mistake at starting race, but finally he took the second position.
Andrea Iannone (Ducati Team) finished third position in last Ducati race. Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) fought Iannone for a podium, but he was fourth. Maverick Vinales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) took the third position at beginning of the race, however he dropped down fifth.
The next season, Jorge Lorenzo moves to Ducati, Maverick Vinales joins in Movistar Yamaha, Andrea Iannone switches to Team Suzuki.
Stefan Bradl will leave MotoGP and participate in World Superbike in 2017.
Jorge Lorenzo (P1):
“I suffered a lot in the last ten laps because I’d had a gap of five seconds and then 4.5…then when I saw Marc in second I knew he would try everything and be very quick, and probably have more rear tyre. I had to be very focused and very precise not to lose the rear, especially in the last corner. I was lucky I could push and ride well in the early laps. It’s a great way to say thank you to Yamaha – a perfect weekend in my 250th GP start, with pole position and then the victory.”
Marc Marquez (P2):
“Today was the worst start of the year! There was a mistake or problem with the clutch, a big wheelie and I lost a lot of time. And I lost time overtaking Rossi and Iannone – here it’s difficult to overtake. Then when I tried, the Ducati just passed me on the straight. When I opened a small gap I pushed like I had nothing to lose, and I was catching Jorge…it was difficult but I tried, and I ran out of laps. But no excuses – the race is 30 laps and Jorge won. It was really nice to celebrate the title here with family and friends.”
Andrea Iannone (P3):
“I’m happy about this last race. I fought a lot from the beginning and started really well. I tried to follow Jorge but he had incredible pace. I tried my best and I’m very happy. The feeling since Friday was very bad and I didn’t think it would be possible to improve so much – but with my team and the engineers they told me “believe and believe in you”. And today this result was possible. I’m very happy because I pushed at 100% and battled with Marc and Valentino…it was difficult, but I was all in in this race. I knew it would be painful and I’d have less energy. That’s why I tried to take Valentino back and then the bike’s speed on the straight gave me some time to recover. I think we had a great battle, and a great result in my last race with my team and with Ducati, and I wanted to end it with this result.”- GRAN PREMIO MOTUL DE LA COMUNITAT VALENCIANA MotoGP Race Results:
