Donate to support families affected by the crisis in Ukraine ➔ Lyn Lapid Releases TikTok Hit Song “Producer Man”
A 17-year-old singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist, Katelyn Lapid, aka Lyn Lapid released her debut song “Producer Man” on October 14, 2020.
Six months ago, she posted the original demo of the song to TikTok, where she singing a capella, accompanied only by her thumping fists and snapping fingers. The video has been viewed more than 50 million times.
“TikTok was rising in popularity, so I thought I'd have a better chance of getting exposed there,” Lyn Lapid said. “I posted it to remind myself what I value. But I didn't expect it to blow up as much as it did.”
The song is based on her personal experience. “It was about my first interaction with anybody in the music industry,” she said. “A couple of months ago, I was approached by this guy. He seemed pretty nice. I didn't like how he pursued success though. He said, 'You shouldn't produce your own songs, because they won't do well. You should do songs that will make you popular.' I disagreed and wrote this.”
Finally, she signed to Republic Records and released the official full version of the song.- source : Rolling Stone
