Donate to support families affected by the crisis in Ukraine ➔ Dua Lipa Covers Cleo Sol's “Sunshine” on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge
British singer-songwriter Dua Lipa appeared on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to perform a cover of British singer-songwriter Cleo Sol's “Sunshine”.
Additionally, she performed “Illusion” from her latest album “Radical Optimism”.
This marks her first performance on Radio 1 Live Lounge in 6 years since 2018. This time, she filmed at the historic Maida Vale Studios.
Dua Lipa said, “I'm so happy to be back in the Radio 1 Live Lounge. I love coming back and being in here, it feels like a full circle moment. It's so nice to have new songs to perform, new stories to tell, and a whole new world to dive into.”
The original version of “Sunshine” is featured on Cleo Sol's sophomore album “Mother”, which was released in 2021.
The track was written by Inflo and Cleo Sol.- Dua Lipa said, “She's just really talented and amazing, and I'm just such a fan. I think, really, that's what it comes down to. And I just love her voice. It's so rich and deep and sultry, and there's so much emotion. She just makes me feel so much – I believe every single word when she sings it, and it's a beautiful thing. I felt a little bit brave and I thought, 'I could cover this'. [I'm] going to give a crack at it.”
- “Illusion” is featured on Dua Lipa's third studio album “Radical Optimism”, which was released on May 3, 2024.
Before her appearance on BBC Radio 1, she performed the song on Saturday Night Live.
The track was written by Dua Lipa, Kevin Parker, Danny L Harle, Caroline Ailin, and Tobias Jesso Jr.
Dua Lipa said of the song, “'Illusion' was the first song Caroline, Danny, Tobias, Kevin and I worked on together, and it really broke the ice for the record. It's about knowing what you're getting yourself into, but staying for the hell of it. The joke's on them, it's the fun of playing someone at their own game because ultimately you won't fall for an illusion.”
