Toronto-based singer-songwriter Victoria Staff released a new song “From My Side of the Table” on February 23, 2024.
The song is the first music since the EP “Records & Honesty”, which was released last July.
It was written by Victoria Stafford and produced by John Karkar.
“I was in a relationship that was falling apart at the seams. There were moments where I was falling in love, but it was a mess. It wasn’t until we went out for dinner for my birthday (big oof) that I realized that this relationship was already done,'” Victoria Staff explained about the song. “I got home from dinner and wrote this song, 'From My Side of the Table.” It’s kind of like when you watch someone fall, and it’s almost in slow motion. I was watching this relationship – with this person I thought I was head-over-heels for - fall apart in front of me. The song is mourning the relationship and also coming to terms with both the good and the bad that came with it.”- She continued, “'My mama watched me cry as I asked her why it’s easy to tell me good-bye'. I found it devastating to admit to myself, that I could be in such a state of disarray that you ask your parents, 'Why do people leave you?' That’s tough. And I think it’s so critical to the backbone of the song. There are parts of the song that reflect on the relationship with rose-coloured glasses, but this line really seals the deal that this relationship was doomed.”
