boygenius Drops New Animated Music Video for “Cool About It”
American indie rock band boygenius, consisting of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus, has dropped a new animated music video directed by Lauren Tsai.
The song is featured their debut album “the record”, which was released back in March.
It was written by Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers, and Paul Simon. Produced by boygenius and Catherine Marks.
In the liner notes of the album reading, “Thanks to Paul Simon for inspiration on 'Cool About It'”
“'Cool About It' is a beautifully melancholic and piercing song that puts words to feelings often unexplained,” Lauren Tsai said of the video in press release. “It is an absolute dream to collaborate with the genius that is Boygenius. I made animated videos on YouTube when I was 11 and I cannot imagine something I'd lose my mind over more if I could go back in time and tell myself. I will always be grateful to the band for the many ways in which their work has affected my life.”
- Phoebe Bridgers told Rolling Stone about verse of the song “Once, I took your medication to know what it's like” , “I really did. I was seeing somebody who was on an antidepressant. It was a low point for me because there's a part of myself that's very impulsive, that scares me, where it feels like there's no thoughts between having the idea to do it and action. It just feels like I have the idea and I do it. And that was one of those moments for me. It was cool to bring light to it in that song because I think it's actually kind of funny. My verse just becomes immediately so dark, it slows down.”
