  • Sigur Rós Returns With New Song “Blóðberg”

  • Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós, consisting of Jón Þór Birgisson (vocals/guitar), Georg Hólm (bass) and Kjartan Sveinsson (synthesizers/keyboards), returned with a new song “Blóðberg” on June 12, 2023.

The song is the first music in seven years. Also, it is their first track since Kjartan Sveinsson, who left the band in 2012, rejoined the band.
The track will appear on their upcoming eighth studio album, which is expected to be released in June 2023. It is their first body of work in a decade.
The band crafted the track with the London Contemporary Orchestra and conductor Robert Ames.
The track was written by Jon Birgisson, Kjartan Sveinsson, and Georg Holm. Produced by Paul Corley and Sigur Rós.
The accompanying 10 minutes long music video was directed by Johan Renck.
Johan Renck said of the video in a statement, “I feel as nihilistic as one could regarding the future. We are powerless against our own stupidities. Some aspects of this came to merge with my impressions of the themes of 'Blóðberg.' The music becoming a score to my own miserable thoughts, giving them beauty as only music can.”
  • The band embarks on their headline tour with a 41-piece orchestra across Europe and North America (all of the shows have now sold out). The tour kicks off at Meltdown Festival in the UK on June 16 and will conclude at os Angeles The Greek Theatre, CA on August 27, 2023.
