Canadian singer-songwriter Steven Sware released his first single of 2022 called “New Romantics” on August 19, 2022.
The song follows up the 2021 three singles “Back To You”, “Fired Up” and “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”
The track was written by Steven Sware, Bradley J Simons, Brandon Unis and Dan Davidson.
Steven Sware explained of the song, “At a young age any type of connection can feel like true and utter love. Although it can be toxic and sex fuelled, the slight hope of this type of relationship turning into something more masks the obvious imperfections. Cynically labeling any relationship as 'New Romantics' because no one else has, understands, or supports your 'love' pulls your mind deeper into this rabbit hole.”
He continued, “For this track, I really wanted a more organic sound but still wanted to keep a modern feel. Without hesitation, Brandon Unis and Brad Simons went all out with live guitar, drums, piano and vocals to create my favourite part in the song – a Beatles-esque vocal harmony step up into a James Brown inspired guitar solo breakdown.”- He said of his music, “I do use my own experiences and life as inspiration for songs, but I am not really looking at the songwriting process as a cathartic experience. I love to write. I love to be inspired by lots of things and I feel that I can write about almost anything. The goal is still to move people, and it doesn't matter to me if it's making someone happy or sad from my own life experiences or by telling someone else's story.”
