Sophie Auster Releases New EP “Dancing With Strangers”: Streaming
American singer-songwriter Sophie Auster released a new EP “Dancing With Strangers” on May 6, 2022.
It is her first project in three years since the 2019 album “Next Time”.
The EP comprises 3-track, all tracks were written by Sophie Auster and Nick Block. Produced by Nick Block.
Sophie Auster explained track-by-track for the EP.
“I wrote Hey, Girlfriend about deep attachments between non-sexual female friends that include attraction, jealousy, and love. There is no word in English for a passionate non-sexual friendship between women. Scholars have a term called “Romantic friendship”, but it is not widely known or used in popular culture. I wanted to write this song about the feeling of loss after I drifted apart from my best friend growing up. I think it is a story that almost every woman in the world can relate to, but to my knowledge, there aren't many songs written about it.”
“Let's Get Lost”
“I wrote 'Let's Get Lost' during the onset of the pandemic,” she recalls, “when we were all stuck inside. At that time I was fantasizing about having wild nights out, meeting strangers, and escaping the overwhelming and, at times, suffocating reality of being in isolation. My intention was to write and compose a song that would move people to get up on their feet in a post lockdown world.”
“No one said I was a dancer, but I sure would like to see you guys dance to my new song The Fall. I was inspired to write this song by the great Candi Staton while sitting alone in my childhood bedroom dreaming of going out and dancing under a disco ball.”
