LEVVELS Releases New Song “Personal”
- American electro-pop trio LEVVELS released a new song “Personal” with an accompanying music video on September 17, 2021.
The song follows up their debut song “Keep Me Alive”, which was released back in June.
The band wrote the song before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. The video was directed by Natasha Gornik.
LEVVELS said of the song, “‘Personal’ means a lot to us, both artistically and as a band. Artistically, it sonically and visually captures the duality of the intense feelings that come up when you’re navigating a relationship, either a healthy or toxic one…the pleasure and pain, friction and harmony, embracing the uncertainty, and lashing out in frustration. As a band, the process we went through in the studio to bring this song to life made us a better group and stronger songwriters. The pivot we took as we walked away from one demo and started the song that became ‘Personal’ (from scratch) was empowering.”
- The band shared social media, “We wrote this right before the pandemic hit. Here’s a story for you. This song was meant to be a completely different track. We came to the studio with a specific song in mind that was not Personal. Personal did not exist before walking into the studio with @sodamnheavy. After working the original song to the bone, we took a break, stepped back, and said “this ain’t happening.” We were frustrated. We had limited time. We took a breath, took a shot (or a few), and played around with a new, very simple chord progression, G, D, A. All of a sudden, Ty started singing, “Don’t take it all, so personal, it’s not your fault, it’s all a joke.” Like that, BOOM, we were off, and a day and a half later we created Personal. From scratch. Sometimes you have to pivot to get to where you’re meant to be. When you get there, it’s worth the agony, the heartache, the heartbreak, and the frustration.”
