  • MOD SUN Releases New Album “Internet Killed The Rockstar”: Streaming

  • American rapper Derek Smith, aka MOD SUN released his fourth studio album “Internet Killed the Rockstar” on February 12, 2021.


    The album features guest appearance form Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne. “I can't even take credit for how amazingly all these things connected,” Derek Smith said. “She did this out of the kindness of her heart… She's a true icon, and it's also turned out to be the biggest turning point in my career.”
    The album comprises of 11-track, but he has written over 1,300 songs since a project Hotel Motel in 2016, consisting of blackbear and MOD SUN.
    "Everything I made when I was growing up, as a teenager, is fully ingrained into everything I am now making as a 33-year old," he said. "My dream was to create a project that sounds like everything I've done musically."
    He worked with a producer John Feldmann on the album. “We all know the best art is created out of moments that aren't superficial. We all know the best art is made when you don't even know you're making the best art.”
    Before the release of the album, he joined in Machine Gun Kelly's film “Downfalls High” along with Travis Barker of blink-182 and blackbear. Also, Machine Gun Kelly has directed the music video for the 1st track “Karma”.
