  • MotoGP San Marino GP: Marc Marquez Takes Back-To-Back Victories at Misano

  • Gran Premio Red Bull di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini took place at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Misano Adriatico on September 8, 2024.

This time, Luca Marini (Repsol Honda) withdrew the race due to illness.
Light rain created tricky conditions during the race, but Marc Marquez (Gresini Ducati) took back-to-back victories, following Aragon GP.
Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo) and his team-mate Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo) finished in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.
For Francesco Bagnaia, this is the 10th podium including 7 wins of the season. While, Enea Bastianini took his 7th podium of 2024.
The rain drops suddenly intensified on lap 7, Championship leader Jorge Martin (Pramac Ducati) made to pit at the end of the lap. But the rain cleared, he pitted for slicks again on lap 10. He re-joined a lap down, and finally finished 15th.
This result marks Francesco Bagnaia reducing the gap to championship leader Jorge Martin from 26 points to 7.
Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) was 4th, front-row starter Marco Bezzecchi (VR46 Ducati) and Alex Marquez (Gresini Ducati) completed 5th and 6th, each.
Fabio Quartararo (Monster Yamaha), Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM), Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Ducati), and wildcard Pol Espargaro (Red Bull KTM) rounded out the top 10.
Front-row starter Franco Morbidelli (Pramac Ducati) crashed out on lap 6.
  • Marc Marquez said, “This one was totally unexpected, especially because starting in ninth place, without those drops [of rain] it was impossible to fight with the top guys. We knew that our second part of the race was super strong and for me, the most important thing... ok, one point is to lead the race, but the other point is to open a gap to the world champion and to Pecco who is super-fast here. I was able to ride in a very good way, very fast and defend in the first part of that second part of that race. And then attack in the last laps. Of course, at one point if there was one more lap raining like this then maybe it’s time to go in. But especially when I saw that nobody went in and only one rider [did] you need to stay out and this is what I did. I controlled in a good way, but then on the next lap is when I attacked. I gave everything. I saw some riders crashed because it was super wet in Turns 1/2, but we managed it well. During the whole weekend we had the speed. But we made a mistake in qualifying. It is there that we need to improve, in two weeks. Apart from that, when I saw the drops on my visor and the asphalt, I decided to take a risk...”
