Mary Lambert Returns with New Song “We Belong”
American singer-songwriter Mary Lambert returned with a new song “We Belong” on August 12, 2024.
The song is her first music in five years since the 2019 album “Grief Creature”.
Mary Lambert wrote the song for the 2022 documentary “1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture” directed by
Sharon Roggio.
The track was written and produced by Mary Lambert.
The accompanying music video was directed by Steven Tsang, starring Jules Skloot.
Mary Lambert said of the song, “I recorded this a year ago while I was writing 'We Belong' and the music for '1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture'. Conservative christians have caused so much harm, and if queer people want to be in religious spaces, they deserve to. I attended Mars Hill church with pastor Mark Driscoll and almost ended my life after a sermon. Writing songs like 'Same Love' and 'We Belong' have helped to heal these deep wounds for me, and I hope they bring comfort for others harmed by the church.”- She shared on social media, “We Belong is an original song I wrote for '1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture'. You can hear this song and my original score-it was an absolute thrill to compose. Also OMG I PRODUCED THIS TRACK IN MY OWN STUDIO! I’ll post some clips later today from tracking violins with Aisha Burns. Tim Van Buren did bass & guitar! Chris Kasych mixed and Ruairi O’Flaherty mastered. Music video was directed by Steven Tsang Sparks Films, and stars the absolutely captivating Jules Skloot and was filmed at All Saints Church in South Hadley, MA.”
