  • Ashton Irwin Announces New Album “BLOOD ON THE DRUMS”, Shares New Song “Straight To Your Heart”

  • Australian pop rock band 5 Seconds of Summer drummer Ashton Irwin has announced his second solo album “BLOOD ON THE DRUMS” will be released in two parts. The first part, “The Thorns (Side 1)” on June 12th, followed by “The Roses (Side 2)” on July 17, 2024.

The album comprises all 16 songs, in which he takes a more outward perspective, unlike his first solo album “Superbloom” created during the pandemic.

Ashton Irwin said of the album, “I love to make full length albums but also the idea of the listener digesting it in two parts initially, forming their own interpretation. It's important to me as a fan of music to have a comprehensive body of work to fully dig into the artists perspective.”

He continued, “I was thinking about the people I left behind, the people I miss, the family that I had to leave when I was young,” explains Irwin. “Thinking about the addictions I've been through. The way I evolved as a young man who never had a father. Thinking about my personal strength and knowing that generally speaking no one else has my back but me and becoming someone that I have to be for the rest of my life.”
  • From the album, he released the first single called “Straight To Your Heart” on June 4, 2024.
He co-wrote and produced with producer John Feldmann on the track.
The accompanying music video was co-directed by Ryan Fleming and Ashton Irwin, who filmed in the California desert.
Ahead of shooting, Ashton Irwin passed his motorcycle license test and learned archery as part of the creative for the video.

Ashton Irwin shared on social media, “This was such a surreal shoot in the desert with a brilliant crew. I got my motorcycle license the morning we filmed it. This is the beginning of a larger story I'll be telling these next few weeks, leading up the album release.”

  • He continued, “Solo music moments & some extremely enjoyable life I've been livin. I've been picking up new skills here and there like I'm gonna audition for a Bond movie for my music videos I've been shooting. Very fun and the perfect mix of new experience & things I wanna do before I'm 30. Feeling so high about this music release on June 4th, I want to express my daily gratitude for what I get to be apart of in this music world & to the people who're listenin and joinin in on my journey. All else aside my prayers are with the men, woman and children that are being displaced & massacred by forces in Palestine and I pray for a cease fire and the renewed safety of the Palestinian people.”
