Laufey Announces “Bewitched: The Goddess Edition”, Premieres New Song “Goddess” on BBC Radio 1
Back in February, Icelandic-Chinese jazz singer-songwriter Laufey won Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album with her sophomore album “Bewitched” at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
She announced a deluxe edition of the sophomore album called “Bewitched: The Goddess Edition” will be released on April 26, 2024.
The deluxe edition comprises a 18-track, including the original 14 songs and 4 new songs.
Laufey told Rolling Stone about the album, “I've definitely shown a fun, lighter side of me in past music that pokes fun at myself, a little bit sarcastic. Although some of the songs are a bit sarcastic on the deluxe, I think it's just a continuation of the Bewitched story as I mature more as a person.”- From the deluxe edition, she premiered a new song “Goddess” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.
The song was written and produced by Laufey, with production by Spencer Stewart.
The song depicts the gap between existing as star in the public eye and self in private life, and the pressure to maintain perfection.
Laufey said of the song in a press release, “I wrote it alone at my piano after feeling like someone had fallen in love with the version of me they'd seen on stage, just to find that I wasn't what they projected once I was off stage. They deemed me to no longer be a shiny thing when the glamour wore off, reduced to skin and bone.” -
Also, she told Rolling Stone, “I feel like these are just the feelings of being a woman. Feeling like you're so perfect when you're out in public, in class, in front of people, or on Instagram or something, and then you go home and you feel not as glamorous.”
