pecq Announces New EP “red moon, rare night”, Shares New Song “closer”
London-based electronic duo pecq, consisting of Hannah 'Jakes' Jacobs (vocals/synth) and Nikò O'Brien (drums/synth/production), has announced that their new EP “red moon, rare night” will be released in March 2024 via Upcycled Sounds.
The EP is the follow-up to the 2023 EP “Amnesia's Ritual”.
From the EP, the duo released the second single called “closer” on January 11, 2024, following “out loud”.
The track was written by Hannah Jacobs and Niko O'Brien. Produced by pecq and Upcycled Sounds.
The accompanying music video was directed by Zak Watson.
Fittingly written and produced across numerous different time zones, the initial framework for “closer” (a song which zeros in on the psychological impact of distance between loved ones) began in Paris with producer Nikò O'Brien experimenting with pulsating 8-bit style synth lines.- Hannah Jacobs said of the song, “'closer' is about distance and coming home. I have been away for most of the past year touring. It was so freeing and inspiring to visit places I'd never seen, but after a few months I struggled being away from my friends and trying to finish songs with someone always in an opposite time zone. I was seeing all these new things but I couldn't ever communicate them properly so they started to feel like a weird dream. So 'closer' was originally about isolation but it was finished on the plane trip home so a different mood crept in - getting closer to your besties, coming home full of fresh things to share.”
