Kelly Clarkson Releases New Album “chemistry”
American singer-songwriter Kelly Clarkson released her tenth studio album “chemistry” on June 23, 2023 via Atlantic Records.
It is her first project in six year since the 2017 album “Meaning of Life” without the 2021 Christmas album “When Christmas Comes Around...”.
The album comprises 14-track, featuring guest appearances from Steve Martin and Sheila E., produced by Jane Black, Jason Halbert, Eric Serna, and Jesse Shatkin.
Kelly Clarkson started making the album in 2019, but announced her divorce in 2020. She had written around sixty songs while going through her divorce.
Kelly Clarkson told Zane Lowe of Apple Music about the album, “It was very much on purpose to have the album not be a divorce or breakup album - it was more of a relationship album. It is a heavy topic. I do like the idea of taking a quirky, pop, happy sound melodically, and then putting a dark lyric with it.”
She continued, “Hopefully, people connect and don't feel isolated and alone. That's the worst part when you're going through something - you can't experience full-on what someone else is experiencing. And it's very isolating.”- cIbUAjn6bOk
She shared on social media, “It's called chemistry because I was trying to find a word that really described the whole thing 'cause I didn't want everybody to think that I was just coming out with some just like, 'I'm angry. I'm sad,' just one or two emotions. This album is definitely the arc of an entire relationship, and a whole relationship shouldn't be just brought down to one thing. So there's the good, the bad, the ugly thing kinda going on in it.”
She added, “Chemistry can be a really amazing sexy, cool, fun thing, but it can also be very bad for you. I thought it was kinda the perfect title to describe the entire album.”-
Kelly Clarkson explained some tracks for the album.
“mine” and “me”
“We decided to release 'mine' and 'me' at the same time because I didn't want to release just one song to represent an entire album, or relationship.”
“favorite kind of high”
“I wanted it to be about the whole relationship. One thing I have learned, in a lot of therapy, is that it's not about just the bad. It was a whole thing. It doesn't mean everything is bad. There's nothing like that high when you first see someone, and you're like, 'Oh s—, I wonder if they're single.'”
“lighthouse”
“This is possibly the saddest song I've ever written, so this is I know you're like piece by piece really 'Because of you', you just get sadder. BY the way, I wrote like most these songs like 35,000 feet in the air in a dark and like on a plane. And you know taking my kids back and forth and it was exhausting like emotionally, mentally, physically all the things and while working and while really processing what's going on and what I'm gonna do and all these things right? And so I'm, I wrote this song and I was like din't think I should release this. People are gonna be like 'is she okay?' and I wasn't then. So anyway I know right I'm not alone and everybody unfortunately has probably been here so I'm really sorry for that in advance. It's just it was one of the things that just it's over is like what the song kind represents of.”

“All right this next song here's the thing. Mama was very angry on the next two songs really, but this song in particular I just man, so divorce okay, so things get said that you are like 'What?', like you're you know you're just get caught off guard and you're like I need to write a song or I'm gonna set my house on fire. So I feel like the first one's healthier, so anyway you can tell by the title it's called 'red flag collector'”.
“i hate love” featuring Steve Martin
“Anyway this next song, man, this is so cool. I am well also pissed, but the here's the thing, it's because the chemistry factor, right like you can't stand the person but like you love them and you're just like, why? And anyway, that's the Dilemma, right? So I wrote this song, and I don't know if you've ever seen I know everybody's seen probably the notebook, right? Okay. Have you ever seen 'It's Complicated' with Meryl Streep you're holding. Okay, it's like one of my favorite movies ever. And it's real life that one it's more like real life not like that bullshit. They sell you in the notebook. You're like totally that's real. But anyway, it's one of the things I ended up writing that and referencing that in this song and I referenced Steve Martin in it, and I'm a huge Steve Martin fan because I'm alive and breathing. And anyway, I have this crazy idea I was telling Jesse Shatkin and my producer was like, 'Do you think he played on it because he's like a badass musician.' And I really wanted banjo. He said 'Yes'. I was like 'What?' So anyway, he got to play on this, so it's so cool, I love that. But anyway, this song is yeah, I'm just really angry. So enjoy, 'I hate love'.” - source : Apple Music
