Martin Garrix Releases Official UEFA EURO 2020 Song “We Are The People” featuring Bono & The Edge
Dutch DJ Martin Garrix teamed up with Bono and The Edge of U2 to release a new song “We Are The People”.
The track is official song of the upcoming UEFA European Football Championship.
It was written by The Edge, Simon Carmody, Albin Nedler, BONN, Giorgio Tuinfort, Martin Garrix and Bono.
Martin Garrix said of the song in a statement, “Creating the music for one of the biggest sports events in the world together with Bono and The Edge has been an incredible experience. I'm very proud of what we did together and excited to finally share it with the world!”
Martin Garrix began working on the song three years ago. Also initially, the UEFA European Football Championship was supposed to be held in 2020, but the finals tournament was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe. So, he waited to unveil the song until this year.
“And then my manager was like, 'Well you can always try to reach out to U2,'” Martin Garrix explained of the collabotarion. “'If you never reach out you always have a no.' At one point he was singing new melodies. And mind you, I think this was six hours after we sent the email to them asking whether they were interested. I remember I had to mute myself on the phone during the conversation just to scream and then unmute and play it cool. It was incredible. I had goosebumps in the studio the entire time, because it's Bono standing next to me singing the song.”- source : SoundCloud
