  • Corona Open J-Bay ran Round 4 in four-to-six foot (1.5 - 2 metre) waves in perfect conditions.

    Rest of Round 3 resumed early in the morning. But Owen Wright (AUS) didn't appear on the Heat 9, no further details on him are available at this time.
    After Round 3, Round 4 had so close games in each Heat.
    In Heat 1, Joel Parkinson (AUS) led the Heat with 7.50, but Jordy Smith (ZAF) earned 8.30 and moved up to the top in the Heat. Jordy Smith continued to get high score 7.23. Conner Coffin (USA) followed both with 8.00.
    4 minutes to go, Jordy Smith got a total of 15.56, Joel Parkinson gained a total of 14.20. Everyone thought both surfers would advance to Quarterfinals.
    But Conner Coffin earned 8.03 and made a comeback to win. Conner Coffin and Jordy Smith advanced to Quarterfinals. At the point, Joel Parkinson left the event, who announced retirement a few days ago.

    Ahter the Heat, Joel Parkinson said;
    "I just had priority at J-Bay, surfing with some of the best guys. That's probably the thing I'll miss the most about being on Tour. I might've lost but I feel like I've won. I've kept it together so far. Haven't shed a tear yet but this wave has done so much for me. It kickstarted my career. This is where it all started for me.
    I've been doing that throughout the year. It's something that I would have cherished if someone on Tour had done that for me. I think it's just a cool gesture. I've dedicated my life to this Tour and hopefully I've made some type of imprint here. It's sometimes hard to realize that the Dream Tour is reality. But I guess the next step for me is reality. I'm no longer a World Tour surfer so I can't stop everything when the waves are good."

    Conner Coffin said;
    "To have a heat with both Jordy and Joel at pumping J-bay...what an honor. Joel and I had a bet with each other at Bells that the next time we had a heat together, whoever lost had to wear the winners jersey the whole next day. He texted me last night to remind me. That got me fired up. But he actually gave me his jersey at the end of that heat, which is so special. He's just such a legend."

    In Heat 2, Julian Wilson (AUS) made a comeback to win, too. Sebastian Zietz (HAW) lost the his surfboard in the Heat 3, but he gained 7.90 and 8.23 with replaced board. He advanced to Quarterfinals following Filipe Toledo (BRA).
    In Heat 4, Kanoa Igarashi (JPN) took down both surfers of Gabriel Medina (BRA) and Griffin Colapinto (USA). Also Griffin Colapinto was given penalty of Interference and lost first ride point, Gabriel Medina (BRA) was survived in the Heat.
