Jesse Ruben Releases New Song “Champion”
Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Jesse Ruben released his first single of 2021 called “Champion” on January 22, 2021.
The song will appear on his upcoming third studio album, which is set to be released in March 2021.
The track was written by Jesse Ruben and produced by Dwight Baker.
Jesse Ruben said of the song, “I got into an argument with a friend in college once. She'd come to a show of mine the night before where I played a bunch of sad breakup songs. She turned to me and said ‘you know, your songs aren't a good representation of who you are.’ Of course, I got offended and defensive, until she explained, ‘yes, sometimes you are sad and moody and ‘deep’, but sometimes you're also fun and silly and it's okay to write songs like that too.’ I'll never forget that moment. I stopped taking myself so seriously. I stopped trying to always prove how witty I was. When I was writing songs for this album, there were a lot of heavy topics covered. Loss, illness, sadness, our intense political situation, they're all in there . I knew I wanted a song to help balance it out. ‘Champion’ isn't complicated. There's no deep underlying meaning. It's just a fun song I wrote for my wife that says, I'm not good at a lot of things. I'm not handy, I'm not much of an athlete, and the only trophies I ever got as a kid were for participating. But loving you? That, I can do. Better than anyone else.”- source : Spotify
