Middle Part Releases New Song “Heartbeat”
- Brooklyn-based alt-pop singer-songwriter Andrew Selkōw, aka Middle Part has unveiled his brand-new single “Heartbeat”, following “& Cry!”.
The song will appear on his upcoming debut EP “I Wish I Was Alive”, which is expected to be released later this year.
Andrew Selkōw said of the song, “The lyrics go, 'I feel like a heartbeat/ In the middle of a movie/ Like a lonely lover/ Trying to get a grip.' It's suppose to paint a picture of me watching myself fall apart. The song is centered around that chaotic feeling somebody in their 20's can feel when they're learning to navigate life or what 'the point of it all' is. I think ultimately though if I'd pull a message from the song it's the desperation of wanting to feel whole.“
The EP contains 10-track and is heavily driven by his personal experiences, his shortcomings, his struggle with depression, dissociation and overall loss. It's about grasping the concept of death, getting older, mental instability and self-reflection. He said, “I wanted to make sure and let go of my ego before I pursued music again so that's a big theme in this record as well as the inability to connect especially when you're compartmentalizing everything all of the time. I wanted to be really honest and vulnerable in this batch of songs. I'm so goddamn sensitive and hate to show it, but it just bleeds through all of my music.”
