  • Gerry Son & The Smokin' Gun Releases New Charity Song “Slàinte Mhath”

  • Scottish alt-rock band Gerry Son & The Smokin' Gun, consisting of Gerry Son (vocals/guitar), Roddy MacKenzie (guitar), Ross Pilgrim (drums) and Scholarios-Hadlow (bass), released a new charity song “Slàinte Mhath” along with a music video on December 3, 2022.

The song was released in aid of Strathcarron Hospice, who is a free palliative care resource in Denny, Scotland, serving people in the Forth Valley and North Lanarkshire areas.
All proceeds of the song and the video will go to Strathcarron Hospice.
Gerry Son & The Smokin' Gun said, “During Lockdown 2021 with all the tragedy of the pandemic we all lost family and friends to Covid-19. I decided it might be good for my own healing to write a song for lost loved ones with a truly Scottish feel.”
  • The band continued, “That song was entitled 'Slàinte Mhath' (pronounced Slanj-a-vah) it is a love letter to all the ones we have lost over the covid years. The song encourages you to raise a glass in their memory with a toast, saying "Cheers" in classic Scottish fashion, saying "Slàinte Mhath", which in Gaelic translates to 'Good Health'.”
They added, “Strathcarron Hospice is an icon of the Forth Valley community. It has been a big part of all our lives growing up and has been there to care for our family members and give support to our families when we were most vulnerable.”
The accompanying video was directed by Gordon Campbell 86Media.

The music video in support of this single was filmed during our charity fundraiser hosted at The Birds & Bees, Stirling. Additional footage of local musicians playing the song to the backdrop of Stirling Castle and in the picturesque grounds of Strathcarron Hospice also features in the video.
The band said, “On a fundraising music night we raised £1,000.28 with the help of local musicians and local businesses. We would be honoured to continue our fundraising journey for such a worthy cause.”
