German singer-songwriter M. Byrd released a new song “Over You / Over Me” on November 25, 2022.
The song is the second single under his new label Nettwerk Music Group, following “Flood” released back in October.
The track was written by M. Byrd and produced by Eugen Koop.
“I dreamt there were snakes all over my apartment,” M. Byrd said of the song. “A snake is a symbol for drastic change in your life and you're repressing it. There's a lot of change for me. I'm starting to be a full-time musician. There's still a pandemic. I tried to dress up this darkness nicely.”
He continued, “I talked to a friend who is into interpreting dreams, and she said that snakes in dreams meant that I was going through a profound change in my life. I remembered a quote I once read in an essay by Freud: 'A dream is the liberation of the spirit from the pressure of external nature, a detachment of the soul from the restraints of matter'.”- He shared on social media, “there was sth transcendental about the chorus when i first played it and it reminded me of how i envisioned „a higher power“ when i was a kid. there was always this picture of this power being somewhere over me. even though this feeling in me has changed into something decoupled from a sense of direction, i can still come back to it when feeling lost, trying to capture it in the roughly 3 mins of this song.”
