  • Ibeyi Premieres New Song “Juice of Mandarins” BBC Radio 1

  • French-Cuban musical duo Ibeyi, consisting of twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé Diaz and Naomi Diaz, premiered a new song “Juice of Mandarins” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.

The song is the first single since their third studio “Spell 31”, which was released back in May.
The duo first performed at A COLORS SHOW in September.
The track was written by Lisa Kainde Diaz and produced by Richard Russell.
Ibeyi told Clara Amfo about the song, “It's one of our favorite love songs. And it's about the ecstasy that we feel when we fall in love for the first time when our hearts are going crazy and our brains are going crazy and we just want to be with the person all the time in this stream. We hope you love it.”

The duo explained of the origin of their band name and their earliest musical influences in an interview with COLORSxSTUDIOS, “Well, Ibeyi means twins in Yoruba, which is a religion and a culture and a language from Nigeria and Benin. Why we chose this name, because we're twins, so you know, it was really kind of easy, and because we're French-Cuban and, you know, in Cuba, the culture, we have a lot of Yoruba culture in Cuba. So it made sense.”
The duo continued, “Well, we grew up in a really musical family. Our dad [Cuban legend Angá Díaz] was a master in his art, really good musician, part of Buena Vista Social Club, and played with a bunch of other artists. So music was part of our lives all the time. And our mom always loved music. We were listening to a lot of [types] of music, you know.”
