- British electronic music producer Mura Masa premiered a new song “bbycakes” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Jack Saunders.
The song will appear on his upcoming third studio album “Demon Time”.
This time, he teamed up with American rapper Lil Uzi Vert, British singer-songwriter PinkPantheress and British rapper Shygirl on the track.
The song was written by Mura Masa, Lil Uzi Vert, Victoria Beverley Walker, Doyelle Mitchell, Nicholas Gallante, Marc Portelli and Liana Caruana. Produced by Mura Masa.
The track sampled “Baby Cakes” which was released by British garage trio 3 of a Kind in 2004.
“Honestly. it's my favorite thing I've ever done,” Mura Masa told Jack Saunders about the song, “One of my earliest like musical memories is watching trailer kind do 'Baby Cakes' on top of pops in thing it was like 2004 or something. And honestly, it's been stuck in my head like ever since and I've just been waiting for the right time to like, sample it. But you're right. It's got something futuristic, but I think there's something about that like early notice period that was like very optimistic about the feature. And I'm super interested in that. Just a bangers.”
- He continued, “I made this be like probably at the start of like the first lockdown. So just after R.Y.C would have come out. And I've been sitting on it for a long time wondering how to kind of get the right features and elevator. I definitely wanted a US feature. So I just thought that would just take it to a space that 'Baby Cakes' didn't really occupy in its original form. PinkPantheress is a very good friend of mine, she trusted me with it. And Shygirl I've got a lot of stuff coming the Shygirl of the feature like we've been working very closely on her record and on my record. Yeah, it's just a it's Avengers Assemble moment.”
