American rock band The National, consisting of Matt Berninger (vocals), Aaron Dessner (guitar), Bryan Devendorf (drums), Scott Devendorf (bass) and Bryce Dessner (guitar), released a new song “Your Mind Is Not Your Friend” along with a music video on April 12, 2023.
The song features American singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers.
It is the fourth single off of their upcoming ninth studio album “First Two Pages of Frankenstein”, which is set to be released on April 28, 2023.
The track was written by Aaron Dessner and Matt Berninger, produced by The National.
The accompanying music video was directed by Jackson Bridgers. Phoebe Bridgers appeared on the clip as cameo.
Matt Berninger said of the song, “When I feel stuck, I'll often grab a book off the shelf just to get some words in my head, and the first two pages of Frankenstein ended up triggering 'Your Mind Is Not Your Friend.' The book starts off with the narrator on a voyage near the Arctic Circle, and that image of being adrift helped me to write about feeling disconnected and lost and lacking in purpose. Once I started confronting that strange, blurry panic of not having ideas, everything began to crack open a bit.”- source : Apple Music
