  • Michael Kiwanuka Premieres New Song “Floating Parade” on BBC Radio 1

  • British singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka is back. He premiered a new song “Floating Parade” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.

The song is his first music in three years since the 2021 “Beautiful Life” from The Netflix Documentary “Convergence”.
He first performed the song at Glastonbury Festival 2024 Pyramid Stage last month.
The song is the metaphorical movement of taking yourself out of an uncomfortable situation and seeking comfort elsewhere, driven almost solely by the power of the mind.
The track was written by Brian Burton, Dean Wynton Josiah Cover, and Michael Kiwanuka. Produced by Danger Mouse and Inflo.

Michael Kiwanuka told Jack Saunders about the song, “My plan and my intent for this song is that you can be transported while the listens to it somewhere, amazing somewhere. That's your utopia. And that's where I wanted to do the sound of this record. The sound of this is to create that sort of feeling of utopia and peace.”

He continued, “I felt like I had a lot to say with this song and like, particular batch of songs I was writing at the time. And just a strong idea of what I wanted to put out into the world.”
  • He added, “[feeling of hope that good times are coming] That's exactly what the song is about and what I'm trying to do. And to be honest, that's what like for me music. Any type of art, for me is about is a way in a place to like address difficult things, stuff that can be tough to feel and express. But do it in a sort of safe way and in a sort of a way that can give you that hope. And 'Floating Parade' is that I wanted it's got such a like happy, peaceful feeling but in the verse I'm sort of tackling things I'm really wrestling with. And I've always found music, a place that safe to tackle that stuff with.”
