MotoGP German: Marc Marquez Takes Pole Position at Sachsenring
The Round 9 on MotoGP 2017, GoPro Motorrad Grand Prix Qualifying ran at the Sachsenring on July 1. Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) took pole position in wet condition in Germany. It’s Marquez’ 40th pole in the premier class. Following Marquez, Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing) was second position by 0.160s gap. Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) took 3rd position behind both riders by 0.647s.
Danilo Petrucci moved up to Q2 from Q1 and surprising took provisional pole with a 1m27.815s. But Marc Marquez improved on his last tour to a 1m27.302s, beating Danilo Petrucci.
Assen GP winner Valentino Rossi was 9th, will start on the 3rd-row in the race. His team-mate Maverick Vinales was lucky to come away unscathed from early contact with Marquez at Turn 2, but finished 11th.
This time, Mika Kallio is making a wild-card appearance for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.
Marc Marquez (P1):
“It looks like every year it’s more and more difficult. In the wet you never know what feeling you’re going to have on the bike but in the beginning I was pushing, and then waiting to push to my limits in the last part – then I realised with less water there was even less grip! Our target was the front row so pole position I'm very happy. This year with the new asphalt it dries very quickly, it’s something we need to concentrate on tomorrow if it’s a flag to flag race. We’re ready in both conditions, and I’m looking forward to being here tomorrow on the podium – but of course we will try to fight for the victory.”
Danilo Petrucci (P2):
"I am very happy to stay with Octo Pramac Racing, I am glad to remain in the team I consider my home. I am also proud to be the longest-serving rider in the history of such an important team. I would like to thank Paolo Campinoti who welcomed me into the Pramac family and Francesco Guidotti who believed in me. A special thanks also to Gigi Dall’Igna, Paolo Ciabatti, and Claudio Domenicali for the support of Ducati, and for providing me with a factory bike that gives me the possibility to obtain great results."
