Plain Mister Smith Releases New Song “Grade Five and the Ax” featuring Findlay Brown
Vancouver-London-based enigmatic musician Plain Mister Smith released the first single of 2024 called “Grade Five and the Ax” on February 9, 2024 via Popoganda Records.
The song is the follow-up to the 2023 singles “El Presidente” and “New Wave Sangfroid”.
This time, he worked with Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Findlay Brown again as with the previous song “El Presidente”.
The interplay between the acoustic guitar and rhythmic drums, supplemented by the modest percussion work and lilting vocal delivery on the track gives off an exploration of reminiscence.
Plain Mister Smith said of the song, "Kids get up to crazy things. A blurry memory of getting drunk in the woods in Grade Five while a friend swung an axe around, and maybe at some point believing the Ax has splintered me in two...”
The multi-talented Plain Mister Smith is known as a guitarist for Canadian Electronic band Moev, but now has his hands full as a cellist for the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra.
