  • Sophie Ellis-Bextor Announces New Album “HANA”, Premieres New Song “Breaking the Circle” on BBC Radio 2

  • British singer-songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor announced the seventh studio album “HANA” would be released on June 2, 2023 viaCooking Vinyl.

It is her first album in seven years and features 12-track.
She worked with a producer Ed Harcourt on the album, following the 2014 “Wanderlust” and the 2016 “Familia”.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor said, “I'd only just started songwriting the new record with Ed Harcourt. This is our third record together after Wanderlust and Familia. The first songs written were really inspired by the upcoming trip to Japan. In the end, the album ended up being inspired by that trip and so much more. It took over two years to write and I can't wait to share it with you. You'll start to hear music soon enough, but I can tell you there's pop sensibilities woven throughout it and there's definitely a lot of synthesisers.”
The album is inspired by a 2020 trip to Japan.
She said, “HANA is an album inspired by a trip to japan I took in 2020, before the world tilted. It's name is the Japanese word for blossom.. I chose it because there are themes of optimism, new beginnings, adventures and reflections.”
  • From the album, she released premiered a new song on BBC Radio 2 The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show.
The track was written by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and Ed Harcourt who also produced it.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor said of the song,“Breaking The Circle is inspired by those late-night moments you have, where you question everything and feel a buzz of adrenaline about what tomorrow might bring. It's urgent and dramatic and optimistic… the perfect introduction to the new album.”
Also, she will perform the song with the BBC Concert Orchestra on BBC Radio 2 Piano Room on February 22, 2023.
