Buzzy Lee Premieres New Music Video for “Facepaint” and Releases Debut EP
American actress and singer-songwriter Sasha Spielberg, aka Buzzy Lee released a debut EP “Facepaint” on April 27, 2018.
The EP was preceded by two singles “Coolhand” and “No Her”.
On the same day, she dropped a music video for title tune of the EP, directed by Alex Ashe.
She wrote about the video on YouTube channel, "At last a video where I cry crystal tears. Facepaint was directed by Alex Ashe, someone I was set up with when I was 13. He was supposed to be my first kiss but then when we met in person we didn’t have much to talk about. He became a dear friend five years later and now a creative collaborator. I am so excited to share with you the Facepaint video."
The debut EP comprises of 5-track and produced by Nicolas Jaar, who is her close friend and the two have collaborated with each other since her freshman year at Brown University.
She told Rolling Stone about the EP;
"I've kept a diary since I was seven years old, and I still write in mine. This just felt like me being nine years old again, writing about, like, Leonardo DiCaprio. Just, you know, personal, I guess."- She said of recording process;
"Around two years ago, I saw that I had about 5,000 voice memos [in my phone], and I was like, oh, I have a problem. Some of them are 20 seconds – just me humming – and the others are like, 10-minute-long jam sessions with myself.
I wanted to finish a song alone, by myself, just to do it as an exercise – to see if I could do it. Once I started doing that, the songs just became so personal."
Sasha Spielberg is known as a daughter of filmmaker Steven Spielberg. She formed an indie-folk band Wardell along with her brother Theo Spielberg. The band released a debut EP "Brother/Sister" in 2013 and a debut album "Love/Idleness" in 2015. After Wardell, she and Nicolas Jaar formed an electronic pop duo called Just Friends.
She started as a solo artist under the name Buzzy Lee in 2017. -
