David Guetta, MistaJam and John Newman Team Up for New Song “If You Really Love Me (How Will I Know)”
- French DJ David Guetta, British DJ MistaJam and British singer-songwriter John Newman teamed up to release a new song “If You Really Love Me (How Will I Know)”.
The trio remade American singer-songwriter Whitney Houston's “How Will I Know”, which is included on her 1985 self-titled debut album, as “If You Really Love Me (How Will I Know)”.
It was written by Peter Dalton, Ollie Green, John Newman and David Guetta.
David Guetta said, “Who can resist the chorus from such a classic record as 'How will I Know'! Full of old school Piano House grooves, this has sunshine all the way through it. Working with MistaJam and John Newman together has made it my 2021 song of the summer”
John Newman said, “I've had the idea to remake this classic Whitney tune for so long as it's a song that's so special to me and my wife. It felt so natural to bring a new story and emotion of my own to the already incredible song and brought this new version of the song to life. When the opportunity came to do this song with David Guetta, someone who I've always wanted to work with – it was complete a no brainer for me.”
- MistaJam said, “My management team Club Class Music Group arranged the session with John last November where we wrote this record, flipping the meaning of the Whitney Houston classic “How Will I Know” from being about the start of a relationship to the end of one. I grew up with that record - fond memories of that peach cover sitting next to the stereo, Arista label rotating on the turntable at the top of the stacking system!
When I left the studio with a rough demo, I knew we'd written something special, paying homage to an artist who'd meant so much to us all while taking it somewhere fresh, especially with John's amazing vocal.
John sent the demo to David who flipped out over it so much, he didn't even wait for the stems to get to work on it! David and I collaborated on the final production, going back and forth on WhatsApp, sharing ideas and parts and the final version is the song I'm proudest of so far in my career. I hope you love it as much as we do!”
