Canadian singer-songwriter and a member of Juno Award-winning group Bass is Base, Chin Injeti teamed up with Vancouver-based hip-hop artist Teon Gibbs to release a new song “For the Love of Life”.
The song is his first single of 2021 and draws how women of colour are mistreated in society. Chin Injeti said of the song, “My new single 'For The Love of Life' ft. Teon Gibbs paints the picture of how women of colour are mistreated in society. Women are the vital backbone of the family unit. They are the givers of life… when we disrespect them, we disrespect life.
A significant lyric is teach them to say your name the right way. When I was young, no one even tried to say my name properly. With so much history and heritage attached to these names, one shouldn't have to beg for that common courtesy.
This song can be seen as a lesson, to be learned while at home, in the car, at work, or wherever one might find the space and time to reflect.”- The music clip features 13 women. The video crated by Shane Gallagher and Iman Wamboi.
Chin Injeti share on social media, “Some of the women in this video are basically family. We've been living, loving, eating & praying together from time . In the same breath some of these ladies are acquaintances, few I have never met in person but have had a profound affect on my life. To hear the stories about their life in our city as women of color was mind blowing. To say they are queens is an understatement, they are strong, resilient, dignified, beautiful inside & out with stories that truly humbled and inspired me. I can't wait to share their stories with you . I hope this video will give you a new perspective of the WOC around you . We should be celebrating them glorifying them every chance we get. It's an honor to be able to show y'all my gratitude & its because of you, I am striving to be the beat man I can be thank you thank you 🙏🏽 ❤️.” -
