Sheyi Releases Two New Songs “Stronger” & “Free”
- London-based singer-songwriter Sheyi released two new songs “Stronger” and “Free” on June 30th.
The accompanying music videos were directed by her husband Simon Pedro Allen during isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
She wrote “Stronger” with Paul March last year. “‘Stronger’ is my conversation with fear. It is me saying what I want to say to fear and finding a way to not let it control me,” Sheyi Martins-Allen (her real name) said. “The idea for the video came from my me and my husband! I wanted people to show me their fears as well, so I asked my friends to send me a 10 second video of their written down fears. The video editor put them all together really well, and so that first image you see is really powerful It was amazing having all the support from friends and getting them involved. I then decided to sing in front of a wall of fears which also worked really well in the video.”
She added about “Free”, “I’m in a club and singing ‘Free’, I am going to make sure I remember what it’s like when you can’t ‘do what you want’. And as for now I am going to make the most of the little bits of freedom I do have. The other day I went for a ‘socially distanced walk’ with my best friend and her newborn, and I started to feel just that little bit human again.”
