Ahva Releases New Song “Trapped in Freedom”
Finnish indie pop singer-songwriter Ahva released a new song “Trapped in Freedom” on April 17, 2026.
The song will appear on his upcoming album “Clean Your Soul”, which is set to be released on May 29, 2026.
The track was written during the COVID lockdowns in Helsinki and reflects a disorienting stretch of time where days blurred together, shaped by life at home with young children and a fading sense of routine.
It was written, produced, all instruments and sample programming by Ahva.
“You're technically free, but in practice, you're very much trapped,” Ahva said of the song. “The song itself dates back to covid times. Nothing happened, days started resemble each other. Memories got muffled. I think the song was my way of handling that period. And of course it's not only about that period, but that was the (somewhat murky) creative spark. I think I've started enjoying my entrapped freedom.”- The new album is his first project in five years, following the 2021 EP “Padworks”.
The project traces back to Ahva's early experiments with the iPad as a musical instrument, where limitations of grid-based apps shaped his shift toward electronic composition.
Over time, those foundations expanded into a more physical and expressive live setup, incorporating vocals, percussion, and collaborations, including performances alongside Petteri Mäkiniemi and his custom-built electronic instrument, Ginette.
Mentorship from producer Damian Taylor helped bring the album into focus, but Ahva remains deeply hands-on, producing the record himself to maintain its personal core. -
