Olivia Rodrigo Performs “drop dead” & New Song “begged” on Saturday Night Live
American singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo appeared on Saturday Night Live to perform “drop dead” and a new song “begged”.
This marks her third appearance as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live, following 2021 and 2023; this time, she also made her debut as host.
Both songs will appear on her upcoming third studio album “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love”, which is set to be released on June 12, 2026.
“drop dead” was released the first single from the album last month. She first performed it at Coachella 2026.
Olivia Rodrigo said of the song, “I wrote this song about a really wonderful first date. I wanted to capture the excitement, hope & anxiety that you feel upon meeting someone you really like. the song makes me wanna skip around & roll the windows down & dance in the rain all at the same time. I hope it brings you joy like it has brought me!”- “Begged” is an unreleased track that she debuted on SNL. The performance featured Los Angeles–based singer-songwriter Weyes Blood on background vocals.
Before SNL, Olivia Rodrigo performed it during an intimate, phone-free show in Los Angeles.
At the time, she described it as “karaokable if you’re sad.”
The new album comprises 13 tracks, which she recorded longtime collaborator Dan Nigro.
She told VOGUE about the album, “It was a creative challenge to write from a joyful place. When you're experiencing that you're connected to someone, or feeling really good, you're not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems! I realised all my favourite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them.” - source : NBC
