MALIA Releases New Song “Getaway Driver”
Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter MALIA released a new song “Getaway Driver” on April 17, 2026.
The song is the fourth single off of her upcoming EP “If I'm Being Honest”, which is set to be released May 29, 2026, following “Not a Love Song”, “Masquerade”, and “Touch”.
On the track, MALIA leans into themes of escapism and emotional distance, tracing the instinct to run before things get too real, capturing the moment you realize you've been playing a role in someone else's story, rather than your own.
It was written by Malia Cunningham, Taylor Whitelaw, and Nick Green, who also produced the track.
MALIA said of the song, “I have such a backbone in solitude, but this journey isn't about doing everything alone, it's about not abandoning myself along the way. I've learned how to create safety within myself and take ownership of my life and where I choose to focus my energy. Growth isn't always pretty and this path can feel lonely at times, but it's where I get even more clarity on my vision. I'll be my own getaway driver. I love the live percussion so much on this record.”- The new EP comprises 6 tracks, which MALIA recorded with producer Nick Green at Furaha Sound in Los Angeles for six weeks.
Across the EP, she explores intimacy in all its forms: romantic, physical, internal, and platonic.
MALIA told GQ about the EP, “IWith If I'm Being Honest, there's more depth in the production, and I've grown a lot—not just as a vocalist, but as a woman. I also understand the business side of things much more now, which has become part of the creative process in a way it wasn't before. At the same time, my core process hasn't really changed. It's still very intuitive and feeling-led. What shifts is how involved I choose to be in the production; sometimes I want to be hands-on and play, and other times I like to step back and just focus on the expression.” -
