Olivia Rodrigo Releases New Song “drop dead”
Earlier this month, American singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo announced her upcoming third studio album “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love” would be released on June 12, 2026 via Geffen Records.
From the album, she unveiled the first single called “drop dead” on April 17, 2026.
The song is accompanied by a music video, which was directed by Petra Collins and filmed at the Palace of Versailles in Paris.
It was written by Olivia Rodrigo, Daniel Nigro, and Amy Allen.
On the lyrics, she references her recent collaborator British rock band The Cure's Robert Smith, “Just Like Heaven”.
The track features Daniel Nigro on piano, guitar, bass, and mellotron, Paul Cartwright on Violin and Viola, and Sterling Laws on drums.
She will appear on Saturday Night Live to perform the song on May 2, 2026.
Olivia Rodrigo said of the song, “I love this song so much!!! it's the first chapter in the story of 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love' and it makes me wanna skip around and roll the windows down and make out! I was lucky enough to film the music video at the palace of Versailles a few months ago with the wonderful Petra Collins and I'm so stoked with how it turned out. I hope you guys love it as much as I do.”- The new album comprises 13 tracks, produced by Daniel Nigro, who also produced her previous albums “Sour” and “Guts”.
It is her first album in three years, following the 2023 album “Guts”.
Olivia Rodrigo said of the album, “No matter how hard I try to write love songs they always come out laced with a little melancholy. I am so proud of this record and I can't wait for you to hear it.” - She told VOGUE about the album, “It was a creative challenge to write from a joyful place. When you're experiencing that you're connected to someone, or feeling really good, you're not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems! I realised all my favourite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them.”
