Kodaline Returns With New Song “We Were Only Young”
Irish rock band Kodaline, consisting of Steve Garrigan (lead vocals/keyboards), Mark Prendergast (lead guitars), Vincent May (drums) and Jason Boland (bass), returned with a new song “We Were Only Young” on April 15, 2026.
The song is their first new music in six years, following the 2020 album “One Day at a Time”.
Also, the track is the first single off their upcoming fifth and final studio album, which is set to be released later this year via Concord Records, marking the last release under the Kodaline name.
It was written by Steve Garrigan, Mads Christensen, and Kasper Daugaard. Produced by Mads Christian Damgaard Christensen.
The accompanying music video was directed by Lauren Wade.
The band frontman Steve Garrigan said of the song, “'We Were Only Young' is a bittersweet song about looking back on better times, knowing you can’t ever go back. Like most songs I write, it comes from something real, that feeling of being part of something special, and only fully understanding it with time. In some ways, it reflects the journey we’ve been on together.”- Kodaline announced their final album last month. The band was formed in Dublin in 2012 and has released four albums, one live album, and four EPs to date.
After over a decade together, Kodaline will bring their celebrated career to a close in 2026.
The band said, “Hi Everyone, After over a decade together we've made the difficult decision to say goodbye to Kodaline. We know this might come as a surprise, and it's definitely bittersweet for us too. What we've shared with you has changed our lives forever. From busking on the streets of Dublin to selling out shows and arenas across the world, it really has been the stuff that dreams are made of. We want to end on a high, so before we say goodbye, we're heading into the studio one last time, to record our 5th, and final album, as Kodaline. We are, and always will be, forever grateful for your love and support. It's been a journey that we will never forget and we hope the music stays with you long after we're gone.
