Bleachers Premieres New Song “the van” on BBC Radio 1

American rock band Bleachers, consisting of Jack Antonoff (lead vocals/guitar/bass/keyboards), Evan Smith (keyboards), Mikey Freedom Hart (guitar), Sean Hutchinson (drums), Mike Riddleberger (drums) and Zem Audu (keyboards/saxophone), premiered a new song “the van” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song is the third single off of their upcoming fifth studio album “everyone for ten minutes”, which is set to be released on May 22, 2026 via Dirty Hit.
It was written by Jack Antonoff, Bobby Eli, Mikey Freedom Hart, John Freeman, and Vinnie Barrett. Produced by Jack Antonoff and Mikey Freedom Hart.
The band lead singer Jack Antonoff told Jack Saunders about the song, “It's my origin story. So this song I sampled, it's an old Philly soul song. It's bamboo magic. And when I was 15, first leaving the house on my first tour in a van. We stopped in Philly to get gas. And when you grew up in New Jersey, you're not allowed to pump your own gas. It's like a law. It's weird, so you don't pump your gas. So we all, we all got into the van. We were all just sort of standing there. And this, the sample from this was playing out of the gas pump. And the Lyric, I just don't want to be honest, lonely. I remember looking around and thinking, Oh, that's kind of what being in a band is, you just don't want to be lonely. So you attach yourself to this, like, group, this, like, click of people, and just move and you're kind of alone together. And I felt at this point in my life like writing about it. Because the more people who know you, it's almost like the less people know where you come from.”- The new album comprises 11 tracks, written and produced by Jack Antonoff. The album title was inspired by an AirDrop message that appeared on a smartphone, displaying “everyone for ten minutes.”
Jack Antonoff said of beginning work on the album, “I was finishing the last tour. I was reflecting a lot on myself and my surroundings. I was feeling really lucky and then really specific. Because, when you get some things you want, it doesn't necessarily calm you. It makes you want to, like, dig even deeper. It's a pretty clear narrative of where I come from and where I'm going, and who's on that journey with me. And it's the door is open, but it's not a casual one.” - source : BBC Radio 1
