Paul McCartney Announces New Album “The Boys of Dungeon Lane”, Premieres New Song “Days We Left Behind” on BBC Radio Merseyside
British singer-songwriter Paul McCartney has announced his upcoming nineteenth solo album “The Boys of Dungeon Lane” will be released on May 29, 2026 via Capitol Records.
It is his first album in six years, following the 2020 album “McCartney III”.
The album title is named after a road in Speke that leads to the Mersey shore, where he would spend afternoons bird-watching during his childhood.
“The Boys of Dungeon Lane” came about from a cup of tea with producer Andrew Watt in 2021. While playing around on the guitar during the meeting, Paul McCartney happened upon a chord that even he didn't recognise. He carried on changing one note, then another, until he had a three-chord sequence. Then Andrew Watt suggested they should record.
The album comprises 14 tracks, which Paul McCartney recorded with producer Andrew Watt over five years, alternating between Los Angeles and Sussex.
From the album, he premiered the first single called “Days We Left Behind” on BBC Radio Merseyside.
It was written and produced by Paul McCartney, with production by Andrew Watt.- Paul McCartney said of the song, “This is very much a memory song for me. The album title, The Boys Of Dungeon Lane, comes from a lyric in this track. I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind and I do often wonder if I'm just writing about the past but then I think how can you write about anything else? It's just a lot of memories of Liverpool. It involves a bit in the middle about John and Forthlin Road which is the street I used to live in. Dungeon Lane is near there. I used to live in a place called Speke which is quite working class. We didn't have much at all but it didn't matter because all the people were great and you didn't notice you didn't have much.”
