  • Lowertown Releases New Song “Big Thumb”

  • New York-based indie rock band Lowertown, consisting of Olivia Osby (vocals/guitar) and Avsha Weinberg (multi-instrumentalist/producer), released a new song “Big Thumb” on March 10, 2026.

The song is the second single off of their upcoming third studio album “Ugly Duckling Union”, which is set to be released on May 22, 2026.
It was written by Olivia Osby and Avsha Weinberg, who also produce the track.
The accompanying music video was directed by Jack Haven.

Avsha Weinberg said of the song, “Olive collected many different clippings and writings for us and spread them out on the ground so that when we would begin to play together, Olive on harmonica and me on 12-string guitar, we could sing the words that inspired us most. What stuck was an almost mantra-like repetition of the words ‘Holding out the big thumb,’ which became the song’s conceptual core. The song became a reflection on the feeling of directionlessness in our generation, and how the paths of life that were carved out for previous generations are now void. We are left to drift along aimlessly or hopefully carve out some brand-new path.”
  • The new album comprises 12 tracks, produced by Avsha Weinberg. It is their first album in for years, following the 2022 album “I Love To Lie”.
On the album, the band constructed the story of Dale the duckling and his friends as they come together to defeat LBH, a media company that looks to separate and isolate to assert control.

Olivia Osby said of the alum, “Our home has been the people who make us feel understood, and the music that makes us feel understood. This music is for people like us — it’s for the misfit toys.”

The band added, “Our 3rd full length album “Ugly Duckling Union”. Our first album in 4 years also our best one yet.”
