S.K. Wellington Releases New Song “Honey Slow Down”

Calgary-based indie folk-pop singer-songwriter S.K. Wellington released a new song “Honey Slow Down” on February 13, 2026.
The track marks the first in a series of singles slated for release throughout 2026.
Originally written as a slower, acoustic piece, the song spent several years waiting for the right arrangement to fully capture the intensity behind the lyrics.
It was ultimately reshaped into its current form, turning the original folk-leaning demo into a vibrant, forward-moving indie-pop release.
S.K. Wellington wrote and produced the track, with co-production by Patrick Zelinski.
S.K. Wellington said of the song, “The song tells the story of an unexpected connection - falling for someone you never saw coming, who defies your usual expectations but draws you in instantly. It reflects the rush and disorientation of early attraction, paired with the anticipation and uncertainty that follow, and ultimately nods to the vulnerability required to let yourself fall.”- She continued, “It took me a long time to get this one right. The song sat on the sidelines for a couple of years because I knew the sound wasn’t there yet. I wanted the music to feel like the lyrics - driven, intense, a little disorienting. When I finally landed on that lead synth hook and pulsing bass, everything clicked. The track finally matched the moment.”

S.K. Wellington explained the process of making the song, “So I wrote 'Honey Slow Down' in 2016 when I first met my partner, who's now my wife. And the song kind of poured out. It was a really intense time meeting her and falling in love with her for a lot of reasons, but the number one being she is a she, and that was a first for me. So the time is really confusing and full of a lot of emotion. And I very awkwardly debuted this song, singing it to her in a very narrow hallway. And so there's two versions coming out. One is acoustic. It's very tender, and it's very close to form to the original version I wrote close to a decade ago. And then there's the bigger band version. And the big full version, I really liked the song. I liked the acoustic but I felt like the song was missing, like the intensity of what that time was for me, whenever I just put it on my acoustic guitar. And Patrick and I sort of sat down with drawing board, and I was like, I really, I want this song feel like how I felt. And that was a mix of like tenderness and sweetness, but also like confusion and intensity and big emotions, and we were doing long distance at the time. And so then we came up with this full version.” - source : Apple Music
