Kim Petras Releases New Song “Pop Sound”
Los Angeles-based German singer-songwriter Kim Petras will release a new song each week as part of her new project “Pretour”, for a total of four songs.
So far, it's unclear whether the project will end up being an EP.
Kim Petras launched the new project due to delays to her upcoming album “Detour” caused by an issue with her current label, Republic Records.
From the project, she released the first single called “Pop Sound” on February 10, 2026 via YouTube and SoundCloud.
The track was written by Kim Petras, Margo XS, Angel Prost, Lulu Prost, and Nick Weiss. Produced by Frost Children, Nightfeelings, and Margo XS.
The accompanying music video was directed by Charlie McHarg.- Last month, Kim Petras shared that she asked Republic Records to release her from her contract because the label has stalled the release of her new album “Detour”.
She added that it's not just the album being held up, but the singles as well.
Kim Petras said, “My album has been done for 6 months but my record label has refused to give me a release date or pay my collaborator's for the work they've done. I'm tired of having no control over my own life or career. I want to continue to self fund and self curate my own music. This is why I have formally requested to be dropped by Republic Records. I also filmed and self funded a music video over 2 months ago for my next single that they also wouldn't give me a release date for.” -
She added, “I won a grammy 2 years ago... the music is TEA. Still no support. If it's not a tiktok trend or 80s revival queerbaiting shit these labels have no interest in supporting. My fans have waited long enough. I love u guys. I'm dropping Detour regardless.” - source : SoundCloud
